As a self-professed "army brat" who moved around often, Dave now calls Oregon home. Growing up, however, Southern California was home. It also happened to be where he met his wife, Nancy, of 27 years. Together they have four children, two boys and twin girls who keep them young. Dave has a Biblical studies degree from California College of Biblical Studies and Psychology/Music/Religion degree from Marylhurst University. He also holds a Masters degree in counseling from Capella University. Having been blessed to serve at a number of churches, Dave is glad to have served the past five years here at Mountainview fulfilling his calling as a Restoration & Counseling Pastor. He has served at Willow Creek Baptist Church, Mt. Scott Presbyterian Church, SouthWinds Community Church, New Hope Community Church and two times here at Mountainview. His roles have included, Worship Pastor, Youth Pastor, Church Planting and Restoration/Counseling Pastor. Dave's passion is best articulated in one sentence: He loves to help people find hope, healing and a place to belong. It is that passion that drives our Friday night Renew ministry that Dave oversees. Dave is a sucker for See's Milk Chocolate Bordeaux and anything Mexican. The Cowboys is his favorite movie. As a former worship pastor you can imagine that Dave has a large collection of musical likes. You’ll find him listening to everything from Gladys Knight, John Mayer, Stealy Dan, and Googoo Dolls to Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, Edwin Hawkins, Tommy Walker, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Hillsong United and even a little bit of blues and jazz. Impactful experiences are numerous for Dave. He lists going to Bible College, getting married, having children, working in Yosemite National Park leading trail rides and doing pack trips, working on a cattle ranch, being hurt by people I looked up to, spending time with a friend who was dying of cancer, standing next to my adult son at his church worshiping with him, leading someone to Christ, seeing someone rise above their very challenging life experiences, hiking to the top of Half Dome with his kids and winning a Reining Horse Futurity on a horse he trained as things that meant a lot to him. You might be surprised to learn that Dave actually turned down an offer to train with the U.S. Olympic Pentathlon team so that he could marry Nancy. He doesn't regret it one bit.
Tom was born in Douglas, Wyoming but moved to Miami, Oklahoma in 1991 where he graduated from high school. Tom and his wife, Sara, have a son named Tucker. Tom graduated from Ozark Christian College in 2005 with a degree in Biblical Literature which solidified his desire to serve God vocationally. He has been on staff at Mountainview since October of 2003 having previously served as a Youth Pastor in Odessa, Texas as well as a weekend preacher in Bronaugh, MO. Tom has a passion to create a ministry which partners with parents to create life-long world changers. His focus is character development and making it easier for parents to have spiritual conversations at home. Tom is a self-professed midwest boy so naturally, he’s a steak and tators man. However, you will not find him listening to country music anytime soon. He’d watch Angels in the Outfield, Cars (because of Tucker), The Patriot, Air Force One, John Q and Hardball any day. In 1993, when Tom's youth minister passed away, he for the first time experienced not only his own mourning but that of others. The funeral was on his first day of junior high. Through that experience, Tom became a Christian. These events helped to shape Tom into the minister he is today. He also credits his mentor, Ron, who prepared him for ministry. Tom is a secret airplane nut. He loves them and can spout tons of useless information about airplanes. He longs for the day when he can learn to fly an airplane on his own.
Carol was born in Brazil, Indiana the daughter of a minister. At the age of three, Carol's father started teaching her how to be a care giver to people in hospitals and nursing homes. Although born in Indiana and moving every four years or so, Cozad, Nebraska is where she calls home. When she was 19, she married the love of her life, Phil. They have now been married for 41 years. They have two adopted boys and seven grandchildren.Carol attended and graduated from Rittman, Ohio High School. She attended one year of Bible College at Midwestern School of Evangelism in Iowa and has 50 years of life experience in ministry. She also holds an associates degree in preschool education and even has an Oregon pharmacy tech degree. In her years of ministry experience, Carol has many stops along the way. In Nebraska, she served as women's ministry director and children's ministry director. Here in Portland she served Crossroads Church as the Crossroads Christian School Daycare administrator and women's ministry director. She has served here at Mountainview for 8 1/2 years in both children's ministry and pastoral care ministry. When asked about her ministry passion Carol is quoted as saying, "To serve the body of Christ with encouragement and compassion." Carol has a soft spot for Slurpees and pasta. The Notebook is her favorite movie, and she enjoys listening to jazz, classical and gospel music. The death of her father remains the most impactful moment in her life. Her father was her mentor, and he served the Lord fully with all his heart. His passing gave Carol a new perspective on how to do that in her own life. You may not believe it but Carol was once a pig farmer.
Craig has served a number of roles here at Mountainview since joining us in June of 1999. He previously served at Oswego Christian Church and Suburban Christian Church as youth & children's minister. He has a degree from Ozark Christian College in Biblical Literature and a minor in Youth Ministry. While at Wi-Ne-Ma Christian Camp, Craig met the love of his life, Tonya. They kept in touch and after a year of Bible school they married. 24 years later they are even more in love and now share their life with two children, Jordan and Spencer. Craig's passion is to see an impact made on the local community by creating and building healthy families who can meet the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of the local city.Craig counts himself as a native of Oregon, but with midwest influences. He grew up in the church and was baptized by his father. Having spent his life as a preacher’s kid has had a tremendous influence on him. He also counts the men who molded and shaped his life as huge influences on why he is where he is today. If it comes in a shell Craig loves to eat it – lobster, shrimp, crab and clams. He enjoyed the Bourne series of movies. In terms of music Craig loves some good 80's southern rock, modern jazz, pop and anything by Michael W. Smith. This past spring allowed Craig to fulfill a long standing dream to go to Israel. His understanding of the scriptures are now even more enhanced by being able to put a picture to a place that existed in print only before. He says his preaching and reading will never be the same again. A little known fact about Craig is that his first job was making donuts in a mom and pop shop in Brookings.
